Sheet masks are skin saving but what about the Dermal Collagen Essence Masks? Are they worth it? Keep on reading to find out.
About Dermal
Dermal is a Korean brand that has been developing products for skin care, healthcare and personal care since 2000.
Dermal distinguishes itself by innovating and offering solutions for skin care problems.
The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks
The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks are cruelty-free, sulphate-free, mineral oil-free, PEG and PG-free, hypoallergenic and dermatologically-tested masks that come with a pack of 16 sheet masks suitable for all skin types.
The masks contain beneficial ingredients like vitamin E and collagen to keep the skin looking healthy.
First Impression
The packaging of the masks is extremely simple but because they use very bright colors it's very eye-catching; and it's the reason I was so drawn to buy the masks in the first place.
The masks are drenched in essence instead of being dry and each has a different but very soothing and light scent; which even sensitive skin types would love.
The sheet masks are very thin and gentle so make sure to be careful when removing them from the package and applying them onto your skin, otherwise, you can tear them.
The Benefits
One of the major causes of premature aging is dehydrated skin, however, hydrating the skin prevents dehydration lines.
As someone who suffers from skin dehydration, I have found sheet masks to be the best hydrators.
They are soaked with a high concentration of beneficial ingredients which are dissolved in the water phase, the mask prevents evaporation from happening extending the time the ingredients take to penetrate deep into the skin.
As a result, it forces the skin to absorb hydration outperforming traditional skin care.
The Dermal Collagen Facial Masks, unlike the paste-type face masks that dry out the skin, are filled with beneficial ingredients which hydrate, moisturize and soften the skin and enhance elasticity.
The ingredients and their benefits are:
- Panthenol: provides the skin with anti-inflammatory properties, soothes the skin and improves skin's hydration and elasticity.
- Portulaca Oleracea Extract: neutralizes free radicals and prevents fine lines and wrinkles.
- Beta-Glucan: speeds up wound healing and soothes and calms irritated skin.
- Butylene Glycol: helps the skin retain moisture.
- Glycerin: helps the skin retain moisture, increases skin hydration, relieves dryness and refreshes the skin's surface.
- Hydrolyzed Collagen: strengthens the skin, increases hydration and encourages elasticity.
- Vitamin E: provides the skin with antioxidant properties, reduces UV damage in the skin and nourishes and protects the skin from free radical damage.
- Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice: reduces and prevents inflammation and soothes the skin.
In addition to this, they are very inexpensive for the amount of sheet masks it comes with and are easy to apply.
My Experience With The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks
I wasn't sure how effective the Dermal Collagen Essence Masks would be but I'm very pleased.
I was surprised that, despite the masks being drenched in essence, when applied they didn't cause dripping and they adhered strongly to the skin.
I definitely felt my skin absorbing all the product, so I was most excited about the end result; my skin ended up being super hydrated which was exactly what I needed.
The Disadvantages
I LOVE the Dermal Collagen Facial Masks, however, if you're using the Dermal Collagen Facial Masks as anti-aging masks then you're in for a big surprise.
The collagen in the Dermal masks will hydrate and moisturize the skin which in turn will prevent dehydration lines but not aging.
The reason being is collagen in topical skin care products doesn't stimulate collagen synthesis because its molecular weight is too large to penetrate the skin's barrier.
The molecular weight of a compound must not be greater than 500 daltons in order to allow skin absorption and collagen molecules range between 15,000-50,000 daltons.
Each mask is advertised to have a main ingredient (whether it be olive, bamboo or milk) which will supposedly target a specific skin concern which I found to be untrue.
All the masks contain the same ingredients, meaning they all provide the skin with the same benefits.
Unfortunately, I have read that some of the ingredients have caused some people to have an allergic reaction, therefore, irritating their skin.
Please read the ingredients and make sure you're not allergic before applying ANY skin care product to your skin.
Why Should You Use The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks?
If you have red, flaky, itchy, dry or dehydrated skin, the Dermal Collagen Essence Masks provide the hydration your skin needs better than topical hydrators.
I recommend you use the Dermal masks cold because cold temperatures cause the skin to constrict, reducing puffiness in tired and dehydrated skin.
When Should You Use The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks?
Use these masks when you have at least 20 to 30 minutes available.
Unfortunately I know that for different reasons, many don't count with free time during the day.
My suggestion is using them either at night or before you go to sleep for better product penetration.
Follow your usual skin care routine but instead of using a serum or hydrator, use a dermal mask.
How Should You Use The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks?
When opening the package, be careful not to spill liquid as the masks are soaked with serum.
They come folded so be gentle while unfolding them, otherwise, you'll end up tearing them up.
After cleansing, gently dry your skin and use toner followed by the Dermal mask.
Apply it tightly to the face for over 15 to 20 minutes, remove the mask and massage the leftover essence into your skin.
Precautions Before Using The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks
Precautions to take into consideration before using the Dermal Collagen Essence Masks are:
- Avoid contact with eyes.
- If during or after use skin becomes red, itchy, irritated or inflamed or swollen then stop using.
- If signs of irritation or allergies appear discontinue use.
- Avoid using on irritated or sunburned skin.
- Avoid using on troubled skin parts such as on eczema or dermatitis.
- Patch testing is recommended.
Final Thought
The Dermal Collagen Essence Masks are a great inexpensive alternative to topical hydrators because they penetrate ingredients deep into the skin, hydrating, moisturizing, softening and enhancing the skin.
It comes with a pack of 16 sheet masks, which is excellent for the price because, depending on how often you use them, will last you quite some time.
They are also are very easy to apply and mess free, no dripping and adhering strongly to the skin.
I recommend the Dermal Collagen Essence Masks if you're looking for hydration, moisture and dewy skin!
